To take something not serious seriously for a moment, what's your personal criteria for saying "the year of the #Linux desktop" has happened? Some percent of marketshare? Support for competitive online games? A native Adobe Suite build?

@jenbanim this is going to sound really silly but, i’ll consider it the year of the linux desktop when iTunes is natively available from apple itself.“what is it, 2009?”. it’s less about buying music, and more about if someone can manage their idevices officially from their linux computer. when even apple has to admit that the linux desktop is not something only nerds use, but inevitable.

@vozercozer @jenbanim admit that this particular unix clone is a viable alternative to a unix system.i find this amusing because the transition would be so underwhelming to the more technically inclined itunes users

@vozercozer @jenbanim I see little reason for this to happen and lots of reason for the opposite to happen (iTunes gets discontinued on Windows and the only sync integrations will end up on Macs once again)

@allison @jenbanim this would never happen, windows is way too big of a market for apple to ignore. apple might make some greedy decisions, but they’re not stupid. apple embraces other platforms when it’s seen as most advantageous. apple music is available from the google play store, you can watch apple tv+ shows from even the most affordable of smart tvs.

@vozercozer @jenbanim This is preconditioned on the majority of iDevice users simply not syncing and using their devices by themselves (which, ime, does increasingly seem to be the trend), there'll be an inflection point where Windows becomes irrelevant for the simple reason that there won't be enough usable Windows machines to go around. Apple providing their other services on Android and smart TVs is a bit of a different thing since the usage rates for those are still only increasing with time.
