@Baa@mk.absturztau.be Why is the Linux Foundation at such a prominent position at the bottom? This organization delivers literally nothing that our "modern digital infrastructure" depends on. Actually the Linux Foundation is part of the problem as they currently spend more money on AI bullshit than they do on actual kernel development.

@SuperDicq @Baa The Linux Foundation spends approximately $0 on Linux development, considering that paying off Linus so Linux can be used in a copyright infringing manner as part of OS's that take people's freedom isn't relevant to Linux development,

@Suiseiseki @SuperDicq @Baa It's worse than doing nothing, they actively harm development if they only get involved to make the kernel proprietary.

@BingsPingsDings@social.linux.pizza @Baa@mk.absturztau.be They are not that important either. Most "kernel developers" are only working on very specific drivers for very specific hardware.

@SuperDicq @Baa People that contribute to the kernel are kernel developers their code is officially added and bundled in the compile time to the kernel even if sometimes Linux distro developers or individuals don’t include some parts of it. You shouldn’t gate keep the title of the Kernel developer due to working on some parts of the kernel, because it is very toxic and rude. And even if we said that that they don’t classify as Kernel developers, calling their work “not important” is a very mean thing to say whether they are getting paid, doing it for free, willingly or unwillingly. Sure some part of the kernel you don’t and you don’t include or never used, but it is in the kernel for a reason maintained or abounded, and is used by people with different needs and use cases. Calling someone’s work “not important” is a real spit in the face for people that put a lot of work in it and to make it functional and stable for the whole Linux community. Please reconsider what you just said

@BingsPingsDings@social.linux.pizza @Baa@mk.absturztau.be I'm not part of the "Linux community".I use the Linux-Libre fork as my kernel, mostly because it is the least worst kernel that exists and respects the user's freedom. But I wouldn't mind switching to GNU/kFreeBSD or GNU/Hurd if I had to.

@BingsPingsDings @SuperDicq @Baa Work on proprietary software that doesn't make it less proprietary is clearly not important.Regardless, if you are not working on the kernel, Linux, you are not a Linux developer.

@SuperDicq @Baa just because you aren’t part of the community doesn’t mean what you said wasn’t rude

@BingsPingsDings@social.linux.pizza @Baa@mk.absturztau.be I am not sure what is rude about saying that I don't find Linux to be a very high priority project. Every software developer ever thinks that the project that they are working on is the most important software project in the world. It's not rude to say that it isn't.

@SuperDicq @Baa you didn’t mention that Linux project is not important, you specifically said that Linux kernel developers aren’t important. That is what I am calling you rude for

@BingsPingsDings@social.linux.pizza @Baa@mk.absturztau.be That is of course implicit. If you're not working on a project that is not that important, you are automatically not that important. And with "that important" I'm specifically pointing out as how important, like core foundational level, the image of the OP makes it out to be. I'm not saying it's not important at all. It's just not as important as the image tries to make it out to be.And if it does make you feel better I do wanna say that kernel development is one of the most important things that the Linux Foundation does. They do a lot of bullshit and I wish they spent more of their money on actual software development instead.
