       my current project is a programmable keyboard(ish), maybe I could throw a second RP2040 board in there (god knows I have enough of them) and make it a USB host Then I can use the programmable keyboard to program USB keyboard transformer-adapters. so a script could alter keys. so like, a l33ting keyboard would change every "e" to "3"

       the trick would be to do this in a high-enough-level way that it's not a pain to write these. maybe even a metascript: apply regex to incoming keypresses

       I did make a keyboard that worked like this before: my poetry keyboard was a teensy-based keyboard that also had a host port, so it could listen to keypresses on the (physically) modified keyboard
