Does anyone know the sound I'm trying to describe here... or is this just some strange thing that happened to me?"On a sunny spring day, nearly everyone in the school is outside. You can hear the noise from the playground, squeals, shouts, laughter and also the strange spidery echo the red textured kick balls in the narrow alleyway in back." (It's like the sound that The Bionic Man made when he jumped? Anyone know what I mean?)

@futurebird Yes, I know that sound well. I think the sound of the impact is reverberating inside the ball. A solid ball would not make that sound, I think.

@futurebird yes! It's *almost* like a basketball ... but not? Plus echo.

@futurebird and it's only kick-balls that make that sound, basketballs, soccer balls, et cetera sound completely different.

@futurebird Absolutely. The sound of a kickball bouncing off the wall or someone's foot is unique!

@ben That's the first part of it, but there is also the strange echo. Maybe one needed to have a school with a long concrete alleyway to encounter it.

@futurebird I really likethe strange spidery echo but I'm hung up on the red textured kick ballsPolite suggestion since you posted? (I hope it's not unwanted and if so, my sincerest apologies)You can hear the noise from the playground, squeals, shouts, laughter and also the strange spidery echo*es* of ~the~ red ~textured~ kick balls in the narrow alleyway in back."

@futurebird Like the gated reverb sound of the snare drum from Fine Young Cannibals 'She Drives Me Crazy ', that sound is unique.

@futurebird I'm struggling to parse the last part there. Are there perhaps some words missing?

@futurebird @ben I remember that sound, and yes, the internal echo from inside those rubber pink kick-balls did combine with the external echo from the black-top covered playground of my elementary school. That playground was mostly level, stucco-covered walls on classroom buildings on its south edge, but edges sharply angled up to the chainlink fence around it because the north side was built into a rise near foothills. Maybe the angled bowl of asphalt mutated the echo of my memory.

@futurebird I DO! I didn't even necessarily know that it was a thing I knew until I read your description of it and I IMMEDIATELY recognized it!

@futurebird Slick bicycle tires, at high pressure, can produce a similar resonance on smooth pavement.
