I repeat that AC’s opinion about Podcasting 2.0 that “we should be happy that any of this works at all” is not kenough many podcasters have been frustrated and suffered not just money loss but also lost time and psychological health - see https://noauthority.social/@Vox/115482907928449563AC is celebrity so he doesn’t understand many things that normal people suffer: poverty, lack of support from service providers, necessity to use AI tools to survive at day job, daily day job

@csb I've lived on V4V for over 18 years. Your comment is uninformed and simplistic. Why do people think that "celebrities" have it easy monetarily or don't know what "normal" life is like?We pioneered this entire concept only to see it struggle through changes in legislation, providers, tenological deprivation and jihadi-like "sovereignists" who chased away many normies by constantly harping on kyc, keysend and self hosting. So yes, it's amazing any of this is still working at all.

@adam @csb I think calling "those people" jihadists is overly simplistic. The only thing they drove artists away from was half-baked running-with-scissors deprecated bitcoin mayhem. There are v4v platforms out there like Bandcamp that are proper accoutable businesses that avoid the whole RSS/lightning mess while still providing value by hosting and processing payments for the same ~10% wavlake takes. What are we upset about? Which artists specifically have suffered from "jihad"?

@csb @adam @Vox it seems you have already played with the Alby Hub wallet some months ago. You still have to update your feed to use your node in the value tag.To receive lightning payments your node has to be online. Thus it is not practical to use a desktop PC. You can use any server (cloud or home). Alby also offers hosting.

@csb @adam @Vox In the early days Alby ran a node for you, but now you have to own your own (just as you own the RSS feed for example)We do our best to make it easy and usable. If you don't like it you should use something else.

@bumi @csb @adam Thx for the reply. I have a 500 character limit, so this will take several posts to explain. When I first downloaded Alby, it was so I could boost podcasters, but then some crap podcasting 2.0 app (maybe Fountain? Podverse) disconnected my wallet. When it quit working, I just started PayPal-ing instead, because it didn't involve any extra excruciating tech.

@bumi @csb @adam I'm a GenX granny who never took an interest in computers until it was FORCED on me, and I've been balking ever since. Please forgive my hyperbole. Fast forward MANY months... I wanted to host podcast myself, and people wanted to boost, so I tried to comply with the new protocol. I bought the Rasberry Pi and followed all Grok's instructions to set it up. 10 days just to sync the Bitcoin node! During that time, there was a power outage. I live in rural Alaska, and there...

@bumi @csb @adam ...will NEVER be a full ten days when we don't have some sort of power interruption. EVER. But it finally synced and I tried to do whatever the thing is to migrate from old Alby to new Alby Hub, but it just DOESN'T work. I can't open a channel because I can't pay the invoice, because the wallet REFUSES to configure to the Hub. I've spent WEEKS trying to find what I'm missing or doing wrong. I've been using Grok to try to hold my hand, and this is what it says:

@bumi @csb @adam "The 400 error ("Wallet configuration error... Request failed with status code 400") boils down to Alby Hub failing to authenticate or communicate with your underlying Lightning node (LND). Alby Hub relies on LND for all wallet operations (like generating invoices for channel opens or linking extensions), but something in the config or connection layer breaks, turning it into a loop where the app can't "unlock" or query the wallet properly."

@bumi @csb @adam I follow all the instructions and keep getting stuck in this loop. That's where the frustration and anger kicked in... after the first few days. I apologize if I insulted you personally. That's not what I mean. What I really mean is that tech progress is leaving me behind. I THRIVED in a world before computers took over. Now I flounder. I know it's not personal, but that doesn't make it any easier, and I'm too old to ever be comfortable with it.

@Vox @csb @adam sounds to me like you try to do the most complicated setup with things that are not needed (like syncing the chain), following some AI answers(which are probably problematic if not reviewed/understood) and all that even though you hate tech. :)are you sure you want to do that? I am sure you’ll continue to have problems with LND and a raspberry pi.just Alby Hub would be easier…🙈but we can go step by step if you want.

@dave my celebrity remark was about detachment from reality by AC saying that he’s happy that anything works at all while podcasters suffer - example of Lady Vox who has husband, Pomeranian & 3 kids & lives in boondocks Alaska with dodgy internet. I don’t @ AC because he didn’t want and reality is that Alby is too complex nowadays and Alby doesn’t allow withdrawal of funds from old accounts and that some simple solution like fountain account in splits should be offered by Podcasting 2.0

@bumi @csb @adam I never WANTED to do any of it. I want to podcast though (I do love the performance part!), and very kind and helpful people who already podcast V4V (and I LOVE V4V for totally other reasons) said hosting my own node was the way to go. And MAAAAN I'm so tired of subscriptions nickel-and-diming me! It can add up FAST. I mean, it's a great hobby and all, but it's the gift that never stops taking. But I can't even get off the ground. No progress for days/weeks. I'm STUCK on...

@Vox @csb @adam if you want LND in your pi:1) is LND installed and running and synced?normally you do that on the command line with lncli I guess. - how did you install LND?2) if synced. then we go to alby hub. how did you install Alby Hub on that raspberry pi?(and again, I doubt you will be happy with a pi+lnd+albyhub at home setup.maybe ask here if somebody has a “sub wallet” on their node for you.)

@bumi bro, thanks for trying to help @Vox but I don’t believe she can make it working on raspberry and she doesn’t want to pay for Alby hub in cloud Soplease could you transfer sats from her old account to some other Lightning address like her account at fountain app?Rationale:Clearly Alby has nowadays different business model that is too much (too complex technically and/or too expensive) for many podcasters, so they need simpler solution like fountain account in v4v split

@bumi @csb @adam The Lightning node says "running" at the top. But there is nothing in the cards. No sats, no activity. The bitcoin node also says "running". I think so. I followed the directions . When I say I installed umbrel on my computer, I mean I don't have external keyboard, mouse, or monitor for Pi. I think that's called "headless".

@csb no I sure can’t! I can’t access sats of some account and just send them to some random lightning address. our model did not change and alby is the best solution for the podcasters. if some other system is better, just use that…I don’t recommend starting with the most complex setup ever that does not make sense when one does not want to deal with it…sounds like the quest here is to make it impossible (grok can’t setup LND on a pi in a place with powercuts…)

@Vox @csb @adam It generally is easy. of course being self-sovereign requires some knowledge and interest and with that power comes responsibility. You can't try to live off-grid but then complain to others that no power is provided when you want it... if you understand what I mean. And as mentioned you try to do strange things there. and I don't get why you prefer some AI answers over letting us help you? You ask AI but then come here to scream "NIGHTMARE" ... 🤷‍♂️

@bumi @csb @adam Umbrel is ostensibly running on Pi. Lighting node, Bitcoin node, and Alby Hub all installed within Umbrel.I needed something that would run 24/7 regardless of traveling or (all too common) power outages. I bought a UPS and power bank too."At the top" and cards refers to what I see when I open Lightning node, thus:

@Vox @csb @adam did you remove those numbers there, or is it still loading? how does the bitcoin core app look like? is it synced?if you want to use Alby Hub with LND you have to make sure Bitcoin Node is synced (share a screenshot) and LND is properly running.

@bumi @csb @adam I haven't removed anything on Lightning node. I'm not sure if it's still loading, but it's been like that since I installed it. I even uninstalled and reinstalled it to no avail. So maybe it is still loading, but after several days, I doubt it will ever load. Here's what my bitcoin node looks like. There was a power outage while it was syncing, but the sync took ten days, and where I live in Alaska, there will never be a ten-day period with no power interruption.

@Vox @csb @adam that looks good. but your "Lightning Node" (LND) does not look right. on that other screenshot you should see some data. Can you restart that? Alternatively you can use Alby Hub standalone and not with LND. that's up to you.But if you want LND then we need to somehow get that running first.

@weeniewawa @bumi @csb @adam Yes, I'm not fond of power disruption, but it's the price we pay to live in paradise. I'll take a weekly power outage over heavy traffic and dense population any day. But I may need to invest in a BIG battery bank (4 figures at LEAST) to do this. That's how much I despise humanity en masse. A person is lovely. People SUCK. I pay every day to avoid people-overload. Thank Light Alaska hasn't been discovered by most. Yet.

@Vox @bumi @csb @adam As long as the bus or subway doesn't take them to you, you are safe for now. Plus AK is like the old west to most and they are unprepared if the grocery store is out of milk. I just had 2 of the largest home solar batteries installed and they are not at all the long lasting solution they bragged about. Short 3-4 hour outages should be fine.

@weeniewawa @bumi @csb @adam I have a small gas gen for fridge and lights if the outage is long, but it's usually an hour or less. However outages are not infrequent. If I wanted to REALLY secure the power, I'd need some deep-cell batteries. They aren't cheap, and need to be replaced every few yearsI used to grow a certain crop up here before it was legalized, so I'm quite familiar with what it takes to have perpetual power. $$$$$$

@csb I’m using Strike for 50% of Podnews Daily, via lnaddress. What I need to check is how many payments are successful that way, and how many are successful via the node. If 100% of payments are coming into Strike as well, I’ll stop using the node. Potentially. But for most people getting into podcasting now, either a Strike account, or an account with TrueFans or Fountain, makes most sense I’d suggest. Strike is independent of any host or app, which is helpful.

@csb I have to go all the way back to July to see a boost from @mgdell 's Castamatic in my Helipad for Podnews Daily. I didn't have an lnaddress split to Strike then, so I don't know if Castamatic supports lnaddress yet.Podnews Weekly Review doesn't contain any splits to Strike - I need to fix that, but because it's a manual method (you need to bother Buzzsprout support and ask nicely), I'm waiting until we know it's supported properly by everyone.

@Vox @bumi @adam @csb @ericpp It appears that you may need to establish channels first. As we discussed, this means either you invest a significant amount of money in crypto and move to your Alby, or publicize your node's address to indicate that you need channels opened to you.A 1,000,000 Satoshi channel would be approximately $1,100.

@bumi @Darren @adam @csb @ericpp @bumi I am unable to achieve the first requirement. When I tried to pay through my Alby wallet, I am thwarted. And the Alby wallet also seems to be somewhat diminished from the last time I tried this. I want to fund opening a channel with my already existing Alby wallet. Alby Hub won't integrate those requirements. All of the steps you recommend are GRAYED OUT until I ensure this wallet is ONLINE and CONNECTED.Plz tell me HOW to do that?!

@Vox @bumi @adam @csb @ericpp If you have your Lightning node running on Umbrel, people can open channels to your device. You just need to publish the node id.

@Vox @Darren @adam @csb @ericpp your old Alby balance might not be enough (probably below 10k) and you don't want a subscription where a channel is included or can be post-paid. I hope it is clear that you have to follow those setup steps and also need a channel if you want to be self-sovereign. You can also do everything manual...But I guess I can't help you anymore here then.

@bumi @Vox @adam @csb @ericpp It sounds like it's over 100,000 sats that she's trying to remove from the old Alby wallet. She's not the only one that was surprised by how quickly Alby made the change or what a pain in the ass it was to get the satoshis out.

@Darren @Vox @adam @csb @ericpp the screenshot here shows ~8k sats on the account. You think 18+ months is fast? And you can still use any NWC wallet to simply migrate the funds. Here we talk about setting up a self-sovereign lightning node on a home computer running Umbrel to be in full control and own everything.to me your comments are a bit confusing and should not be mixed here.

@bumi @Vox @adam @csb @ericpp I saw the screenshot with the 8000, according to Vox, she had over 100,000. I am well aware of what we are talking about.I have a fully functioning Umbrel, including Alby Hub, and have moved millions of Sats. Also, don't fucking tell me where I should and shouldn't "mix" when trying to help someone.

@Darren @Vox @adam @csb @ericpp To me talking about withdrawing sats is different to setting up a self-sovereign node. that's why to me your comment was confusing. Also I was confused why you think a channel costs $1000. Sorry that I don't understand that. Guess we all try to help here. Great that you help. I prefer conversations that don't throw f* words around.

@bumi @Vox @adam @csb @ericpp With all due respect, if you don't want "F words" thrown around, being condescending is the wrong way to go.Opening up channels doesn't cost $1000, but if you want to open a 1,000,000 Satoshi channel to someone, you ARE tying up funds worth over $1000USD, are you not?Vox is trying to move the Sats from the old, unsupported wallet to her own box. I am not sure why she is having the issues that she is having. I did not experience those when moving over after your system went paid hosting only.

@Darren @Vox @adam @csb @ericpp To simply get a channel with 1m capacity you don't need $1000USD. Such a channel cost much less than $20USD from a LSP. If you want to put $1000USD in a channel to be able to send $1000USD then you need those, yes.Maybe @Vox should say what she wants. because to me in this conversation we talked about a node that should run at home with LND to send/receive boosts.I might be wrong.

@Vox @Darren @adam @csb @ericpp that probably shows the spendable balance. but that channel probably requires you to fill up the channel reserve first (in alby hub this is shown on the node page, I think also for LND nodes. best check all that in your lightning node app or alby hub on umbrel)to transfer your old Alby balance go to: https://getalby.com/node (you had posted a screenshot before)

@bumi @ericpp @Darren @csb IT FINALLY WORKED!!! Mostly. It's showing activity anyway. Which is WAY better than the last few dozen/hundred times I've done that! Here's the picture of partial success!! (now on to recover the missing sats!)

@Vox @Darren @bumi @csb I think you can connect both to your hub. You would set the proton one up as a subwallet in albyhub.

@ericpp @Darren @bumi @csb I'm just THRILLED to see anything resembling functionality!! I was stuck in a loop whereby I had to open a channel to connect the wallet, but I couldn't connect the wallet without first opening a channel. But @Darren kindly circumvented that particular level of hell when he opened a channel for me. Man, does that guy need a BOOST!!

@Vox @ericpp @bumi @csb Eric is correct, you can set up multiple wallets to the hub, if you connected one with 8000 sats, just do the same thing with the other wallet and you should have them transferred in. You don't even need to set up sub-wallets.

@Darren @bumi @csb @ericpp The app is not very forthcoming with ways to confirm my current status.Loca just tried to send test sats to the Grumpy Old Dames podcast and got an error. So my wallet appears to be somewhat functional, but it's not hooked up with blubrry correctly.... maybe??

@Darren @bumi @csb @ericpp I don't see those sats in any of the other wallets, and I don't know which one transferred. It just did the transfer without identifying the wallet. All the wallets in the extension now show the same amount. 6637. (Which should make me happy because it's a prime number, but I still want to recover the account in full.)

@Vox @bumi @Darren That would've been the 12 secret words it had you write down when setting up that hub. They let you recover the hub if you accidentally delete it. Without them, you're pretty much SOL for ever recovering it.

@Vox @bumi @Darren You'll need to set up a separate hub for that then. I think each hub can only have one set of secret words. You could try installing the alby hub windows app and recovering the hub with that set of secret words from July. If there's sats in there, you could transfer them to your new hub.

@ericpp @bumi @Darren I don't see any words in Umbrel. There are words in Lighning node that match my words. I cannot find the recovery words in Alby.

@Vox @ericpp @bumi From what I can tell, the Alby Hub on a laptop would consist of a single executable file that can be placed anywhere on your system. Where you might have put it is really anyone's guess. I'd check the downloads folder and see if you left it in there.Do you believe that you were able to set it up and run it on the laptop and also transfer the 100K Satoshis to it?

@Darren @bumi @ericpp I tried poking around at some keys and i got a new page asking me to open my first channel. From this I will infer that I do have more than one hub, and now that is a BIG PROBLEM. How to I integrate everything I've done for the last few years into a single account with a single wallet? The last few weeks represent the most concentrated time I've spent at a computer keyboard BY FAR in my entire 55 year old life.

@Darren @bumi @ericpp The hub through umbrel has the sats CSB sent. The hub that I poked around and found in one of my computers is prompting me to go back through all the steps. It wants me to open my "first" channel. Again.

@Vox @Darren @bumi The secret words are the only thing that matters. You can use those to restore your node onto any computer. Try loading Alby Hub on your computer and use the secret words to set it up. You shouldn't need to open a channel to see if it has a balance or not.

@Vox @ericpp @Darren I sadly don’t get what you’re trying to do now.You have setup your Umbrel now, the Alby LN address is connected, you transferred old funds, and everything seems to work. You also seem to have setup some other Alby Hub in July. If you forgot how you ran that sadly nobody here can know that. you’ll also don’t find any links in the Alby dashboard because it’s not an Alby cloud hosted one.

@Vox @bumi @ericpp I believe the extension could cache the data, meaning if you had set up Alby Hub on a laptop in July, and transferred the Sats to it (perhaps @bumi can verify the amount of Sats transferred in July) and then got rid of the laptop, you are out of luck, unless you wrote down the 24 word phrase from the hub you set up in July.If you have that phrase, then you need to restore a hub using that phrase. Anyone can correct me if I'm wrong on any of this.

@Darren @Vox @ericpp yes our logs show that in July a Alby Hub was started (not in the Alby cloud), a channel was opened and funds of that amount were transferred. what, where that Alby Hub we don’t know. The backup requires the wallet backup key - that recovery phrase from July of that hub. (this is not the words of the Umbrel Lighning app, not from the extension, … but from that hub that was setup in July)

@bumi @Darren @ericpp Okay. So @bumi, please give me EXACT instructions on how to reach the place where I can enter the recovery phrase/seed that I wrote down last summer. I can either use the Alby hub through Umbrel, albyhub.com through my browser, getalby.com through my browser, or the Alby extension. Thank you for being so patient. If you can fill in the last piece of this puzzle, I'd LOVE to return some value to you.
