now step 1 is gonna be backing up my stuff and making sure itll still work on chimera . this is gonna be three separate substeps:export my passwords and move to pass from Keepass . this is because chimera does not package my favorite keepass client , and also because i hate that there is no good scriptable interface for Keepass password managementcreate a world file before proceeding with the actual installation: this way i dont have to manually install each thing as i go , and i can just set the system to have the packages i know i needback up important stuff that i wanna keep on an hard drive . probably gonna be manual , or maybe i will make a borg repo and just do my whole home dir , ill see

@fiore they are compatible, but the things that make gopass cool make it incompatible. gopass supports age encryption and fossil for version control. if you want to use those features though, you cant use another app for it

@fiore i tried out pass and passage and gopass for a while and ended up going back to keepassxc. theres many problems with it.i like the idea that each password is encrypted individually instead of unlocking everything. that is the only benefit to passgnupg fucking sucks. age is better, but it doesnt have an agent like gpgalso, its a bit less private. pass doesn't do anything about file metadata, so atimes and ctimes are all visible.i check this issue every once and a while to see if the gopass guy decided to make kdbx backend real https://github.com/gopasspw/gopass/issues/1560

@fiore on the other hand something like debian makes my life easy here, even if it isn't packaged directly building from source is a simple enough matter even once multilib is taken into account and I can run even the most obscure of 32bit only or out of the way packages without too much effort being expended on the setup of them
