if your shell script is longer than 50 lines , youre doing smth wrong . if your shell script needs to be run in bash , youre doing something wrong . if you call a shell script a “program written in shell” , you are doing something wrong

@fiore my uni had some fucking insane setup script for their network on linux, it was like 500 lines, only worked if you had networkmanager installed and used a lot of bashisms. I don't remember why it was so fucking complex

@fiore like literally the shell code i wrote to wipe out the opt and xorg repos to get a clean core-only system is just 4 pipes and one of those only exists because sed is cowardly and cant handle newlines. if i put these on separate lines thatd be solely to stay under 80 columns

@mage_of_dragons @fiore Tcl has the "everything is a string" philosophy, except quoting actually works properly (so, no shell injection vulnerabilities), you can add new control flow primitives if you like, you've got more control over pipelines (https://www.tcl-lang.org/man/tcl9.0/TclCmd/open.html#M22 https://www.tcl-lang.org/man/tcl9.0/TclCmd/exec.html), there are database, threading, and GUI packages, it's an actual programming language, and the syntax is simpler.Tcl isn't a great programming language, but it's better than bash. Nearly anything is.
