@zen That's not what that is. It is the ru-UA locale for Russian language spoken in Ukraine. Like all other locales, it is automatically filled by what the system supports and has installed. en_US is the system default, which will be listed as "English (United States of America)".

@mmsticksorry for interjecting here, but there is no such thing as ru_UA locale. It's a russian propaganda, just like "russian-speaking population" is a completely made-up term to divide (and then conquer) Ukraine.I can see why en_<country> locale is a different story, which may confuse you. That's because English has been evolving into really different variants when brought to Australia/NZ or the US/Canada, both in pronunciation and written tradition. On top of that the invaders built states on that land, so there is a valid reason to have a separate language variant for English there. But regarding Ukraine, the reason is invalid. The invaders will not build their state on Ukrainian land, instead they will be burnt in hell. So, is there a way to remove the fake locale from the distro, please?Thank you.@zen @rada @ua#russiaisaterroriststate #країнагній

@zen Simply because your both languages are close to each other. The difference is like between Germany and Austria or maybe Switzerland. All 3 speak German as a language (in general) but with different dialects.

@roland @system76 @zen a pole and a russian will resort to a translator, but a pole and a ukrainian will not (=understand each other). Will this serve as a good argument?

@michael @zen Go ahead and create a ua_UA locale, I won't stop you. But be aware of that you have many other ethical groups in Ukraine and they already complain about not being allowed to speak their language in Ukraine. Like Romanian, Russian or even Greek (they call themselves Helenes). So you need more locales, not only ua_UA, but also ua_RO, ua_RU, ua_GR and so on? Please rememember that there is no us_US or us_EN, but there is en_US, en_GB, en_AU et cetera by en_US is the default locale (mostly with UTF-8 extension) for most Linux software. Remember that the first 2 letters are the language code, 2nd country. That's why you have de_DE for German in Germany, de_AT for German in Austria, de_CH for German in Switzerland et cetera.

@roland @system76 to be honest, I wanted to test the status of Ukrainian localization in Cosmic DE, but I was unable to change the locale even after installing the proper one and setting it as a higher priority than English in two dialog windows. I helped some time ago with the translation of cosmic-editor, but it's useless now, as regular users will not see it. Basically, this revision of Cosmic DE isn't even an alpha version.

@zen You cannot deactivate my account here on my instance. That's impossible. And I'm just stating a simple fact, how locale codes are constructed: lang_COUNTRY.EXT. That's no "Russian propaganda", that's a fact you can verify.
