       @ricci Memories of watching mag tape machines in action, the hanging loops of tape dancing like ballerinos.

       @fanf I like the idea that in order to salvage a 9-track tape of Unix v4, you can't use terminal equipment more recent than a Digital VT220.

       @f4grx @ricci Yeah, having that near the crt makes me nervous. 50 year old tape erased minutes before being copied...

       @FritzAdalis @f4grx don't worry, it stayed off and that isn't where it's being stored

       @ricci @FritzAdalis I'm not worried, it was a joke :)

       @ricci Did they already use Terminals in 1973 or was it still teleprinters?

       @giggls Not sure, this was long before my time. This particular terminal is about10 years newer than the tape

       @ricci I just read on Wikipedia that #VT100 was released in 1978.

       @ricci I have to admit that when I was a kid, I looked at VT-220 with envy. This picture made me feel this again. (despite the fact that I'm typing this on a nice MacBook Air M2, 24 Gb of RAM and Studio Display).

       @giggls @ricci Depends on what you call a terminal. Students interacted with time shared campus mainframes using what were essentially IBM Selectric typewriters with APL type balls when I first went to university in 1973 https://aplwiki.com/wiki/Typewriter_terminal I didn’t see my first ASR-33 until I was also using VT-52s in 1980. My first CRT experience was sometime between those, details lost in the mists of time
