@All_bonesJones @vic @deprecated_ii As someone who is pretty good at chess, I reject that being good at chess has anything to do with any applicable intelligence. You don't see top-rated chess players doing astrophysics or neurosurgery in their spare time, or vice versa. People get good at chess because they put a lot of their time and effort into it. Turd worlders probably view it as a way to rise out of their circumstances, the same as they would with athletics or art.

@All_bonesJones @deprecated_ii @vic It's just a lot of memorization and skill through repetition, there isn't much room for creativity and they're not usually very adaptable: a lot of chess players completely fumble when they go off-book, you see it all the time at even the highest level.
