       @IcyGrillz Assuming the payments are the same, a rental agreement puts the onus of maintenance and repair onto the landlord, which makes that the better deal.

       @black6 @IcyGrillz The mortgage gives me the option to pay off at any time. The rent scenario leaves me to the whims of landlord and government regulations. My payment can be altered by someone else's desire.

       @IcyGrillz There is a scenario.  I'm renting from a family member who owns the home.  My rent payments are SIGNIFICANTLY less than a mortgage would be.  It's their retirement investment.I'd like to buy a home, but I looked into it, and the expected cost of a mortgage is 100% of my take home pay.
