@judgedread Lol. Exactly. MickyDs, Taco Bell, etc. etc. are offering 15, 16, 17, even $18 an hour, yet here we are with some back breaking labor offering $14 an hour. I told the owner this multiple times, you get what you pay for, if you're only willing to pay near minimum wage for workers, the only people who will ever be interested are convicts, retards (like actually disabled), and anyone retired, you'll never get a guy, fresh out of high school, to work for there for the next 10 years, much less the rest of his life.And whats worse, to learn about Electrical Motors (my industry), their applications in industries like mining, industrial production, farming, etc. and the process behind repairing or replacing one it takes 3-5 years.This is why American Industry cannot right itself, it has no idea how to reciprocate itself and thus make itself sustainable.

@judgedread @Largo Went through this at my small manufacturing firm in flyover country. High turnover on our production floor. The work is incredibly easy to do but requires a high level of attention to quality while standing all day. One long timer left and 3-4 others followed. We paid $14ish and they left for $18. The VP of production said ”Yeah, but they’re getting worked pretty hard over there.”My response: To the hourly worker, a shitty job is a shitty job. Our floor isn’t a career path but we DO need people who care about quality. That crowd only knows that at the end of the day, the other soulless gig pays better. We fixed our pay and the turnover stopped.

@Sulla_Felix @judgedread @disclosetv That or their job is so unbelievably miserable/dangerous that no increase in pay can keep anyone there.People talk, and if your small business gets a reputation of only being able to keep workers with an average age of over 60, young people will look elsewhere. (You wouldn't believe how many places are like that around)

@judgedread @clort They could fill every labor slot needed with native born Americans if they paid enough but that fucks the top .01 % out of all the wealth and the top.01% of that group wants all that money. If corporations went back to business models they used before 1970 alot of problems would get solved. Somehow post black death europe employed enough people to get things done.
