Should the default #curl progress meter use 1000-based units instead of 1024-based ones ?

@bagder 1024 because SI units should be disrespected at all times.

@bagder 1024, but call it kilobyte, megabyte, etc. . don't call it kibibyte, even if that would be correct

@bagder I don't really care as long as it gets the unit prefixes right (Ki/k, Mi/M, Gi/G)

@lambda @bagder a kilobyte should always mean 1024 byte, even if that is incorrect. we need to gaslight people into that again. SSDs that are labeled to have 1TB storage capacity, should have 1TiB, meanwhile pricing should be equivalent to 1TB. I want more bang for buck. Manufacturers that do not comply should have to face legal consequences.Despite, that i'm 100% serious about this: Thank you for reading my shitpost

@condret @bagder No, 1024 and label it like XiB just like most software so people are left in perpetual confusion if that is actually correct. Or even better label it only as K, G, M,... with the 1000-based meaning and when speed get too slow, switch to bytes.

@bagder if it's K-M-G-T-etc, then it makes sense to use 1000.If it's Ki, Mi, Gi, Ti, then 1024.I think that's called SI.

@0x0 @relistan @bagder @rotnroll666 I spend some minutes trying to tune the maximum velocity of a sheep in a vacuum down to the last kilometer per hour.I succeeded.

@0x0 @relistan @bagder @rotnroll666 (Success is limited by the precision of whatever calculations the site does. I may still not have the exact maximum velocity of a sheep in a vacuum.)
