With the 1/3 rule for housing budget, this is barely manageable if you're grossing 90k a year. Keep in mind, grossing- NOT salary, because at that approximate salary, fed taxes alone are between 22 and 24%.Yeah I like jerking myself off over how spartan and successful I am too, but this is very clearly broken.

You can argue that if you want hobby stuff, yeah maybe lay off the coffee shops for a bit. Anything bigger? America is currently powered by a fictional economy where the actual economic growth of the country is probably in the negatives if you don't count AI companies giving other AI companies money to give to other AI companies, plus government money being given to AI companies. GDP is bullshit, the country isn't more prosperous right now, it's all just fake money being thrown around while not actually reaching the hands of anyone who gets work (for the rare few people who can get work). Everything keeps getting more expensive because this fake economy is supposedly representative of the average American's buying power. This is on top of not having recovered from the previous economy fuckery that happened in the 2000s. So yeah, even if you wanted to get a home, any attempt to save up would immediately be invalidated by insane jumps in price (not to mention existing living costs because people don't live in time-stopped pocket dimensions before buying a house). Better to just invest in hobbies at that point.

@dassauerkraut @skylar @matty great great grandpa was a sailor, great great grandma ran a booze and tobacco shop, great great grandpa did abandon the seamen in favour of lumberjacking cuz that was easier on his chronic soberness, he bought a 1925 harley davidson with booze through one of his friends whom arranged a small shipment of exotic rainforest woods in exchange of the motorcycle + cash, multiple "logs" were hollow and packed with tequila, he drove that harley until he drunk crashed into a small lemon tree, he got stuck into the tree bike slammed onto the wall behind the tree...can't talk much about my other great great grandparents tho as from my mother's side only my grandpa cared enough to spend some time with his grandparents, only his mother's side for that matter, and talking about them, from my grandmother's side is a mess, from my father's side... my father's side grandpa i can no longer remember his face, the face of my father's side grandma is blurrier every year, i can do remember my great grandpa (dad of my father's side grandpa) tho, or at least i think the face i remember is him, i do remember him with more clarity than my father's side grandma so in my mind that was hwat he looked like.
