How to deal with a hobby burnout? And please don't say "take a break", it's been a two years already, I had my break.I'm trying to identify what exactly caused this. Usually my thoughts around the topic are:- "Someone already did this so it's pointless"- "I'm too stupid for this, I'll fail"- "Why bother writing blogposts, no one will ever read it when so much AI slop is available"- "Being a woman in this community sucks so much, do I even *want* to interact with anyone?"

@spook I think ive been self loathing for 3? so, totally feel all those points. Its easy to get knocked down in this cacophony of people.I look at my unfinished project folder of shame. But I imagine you'd say they were cool, and I should just do them for my own sake. And my response to yours will always be a resounding Hell Yeah!

@discatte Oh yeah, you had your own share of bullshit to deal with, I can imagine it's discouraging. But I guess at the end of the day it's either Keep Doing What You Like or Go Home, no way around it.

@spook I certainly dont have an answer to it all, but I at least have some contrast to my offline life of tinkering and coding just for myself. Finding that zen and appreciation for the experience is quite grounding.I also very much value just having a close knit friend or two to share (and receive) musings with from time to time. From a historians point though, its nice to see all manner of tinker journals, we all do the same stuff, but with our own flare nuanced appreciation.

@spook do someyhing else, something new, have fun again. Unfinished stuff does not matter. We're in hobbies to enjoy the process, not the "end products". And dont write if you feel not writing.I'm in a situation thats a bit close, i wont write about the things I do, I dont care, I'm not feeding the slop machine, and projects are primarily for me. There is no need to share, show, and produce.I hope you feel better soon. Take care.

@f4grx@spook Also, not sure if that's the case for you, but for me, it's easier to accept tradeoffs and not treat them as failure if I had the time to think through all the options. If I hurry and try hard to get to the finish line, tryng to work around any comolications as quickly as possible, they pile up and become very discouraging. But if I slow down, look at each of these hurdles from all sides, and consciously choose one of imperfect sultions, it feels less like a failure

@spook have you tried installing a visit-counter so that you get an idea how many people are reading it?

@darth I have basic analytics on my site (not google ones, fuck them), so I know some people read it /when I actually write something/. I also have people writing emails or approaching me irl after discovering it, hitting me "hey, cool site". But even then, when I actually open my drafts to focus and write, the sour voice in my head goes "well, why would anyone want to read about THAT, are you stupid?"So I know it's all in my head, that's what makes it worse.

@spook I am biased but your website design is absolutely awesome. I know this isn't a helpful comment but it's honest
