@dave @ErickaSimone I don’t know about America, but would Americans really trust a random phone call claiming they need help? I got a DM on Tumblr from someone saying she needed to feed her children in a war zone. I don’t even know how the bot found me, since I don’t post much there.I’ve also seen scammers try to exploit Buddhists’ kindness, asking them to donate to apparently unverified and miserable causes and I believe they are not only aimed at Buddhist but all the religion

@denpanek0 @dave I mean, if a woman called up a CHURCH — not some random number or person… just to ask for help… I mean the benefit of the doubt, as a church, is that you SHOULD HELP. Helping others “in Christ” is the reason most churches exist. I get the trust factor but this isn’t some random scammer text. This is a fair audit.

@ErickaSimone @dave and these rules are meant to ensure they do good in the most effective way possible, not acting randomly based on personal goodwill If their procedures are so inhuman that they stop them from helping those who truly need it, then yes, the church should change. But before exposing them, I wonder if the lady considered the risks the churches themselves have to face. If they make an exception for her, what about the scammers who would follow?

@denpanek0 @ErickaSimone @dave the church would give those scammers a can of baby formula each to feed their children, too.

@fartnuggets @denpanek0 @dave Thank you. THANK YOU.It’s not about “scamming.” It’s about “Will you help those in need like Jesus did or are you bullshitting?” Everything else is irrelevant for this situation.

@ErickaSimone @fartnuggets @denpanek0 @dave Most Christians I've come across forget the whole part where Jesus didn't say only people of a certain color or poverty level deserved help. He said love everyone, help everyone. Love and forgive as he loved and forgave us, I think that's how the verse goes. Also, judge not lest you be judged the same

@HappyCrow13 @ErickaSimone @denpanek0 @dave I'm an atheist, but I think Jesus was exactly correct on this. If one can provide help, but along with it comes conditions, then it's not help, it's an obligation. A gift is given freely, and how it is given reflects the character of the giver; how it is used reflects the character of the receiver. I prefer to live in a world where scammers end up with a can of formula, rather than one where an infant goes hungry.

@fartnuggets @HappyCrow13 @ErickaSimone @denpanek0 @dave we live in a world where one set of scammers, who already have more than they need, get elevated to the highest levels of power, and we put all of our scrutiny on those white have nothing JUST IN CASE the very little they ask for MIGHT be a scam
