@r45tkmcxmx @cryborg new york city is a particularly silly example to bring up in this context given that it was first colonized and planted by the dutch, who by an accident of their history ended up with the seeds of cultural pluralism in their sectarian politics and religious understandings, which ended up carrying over even after nyc was conquered by england and then the usa in (relatively) short order

@allison @cryborg i meant boston specifically i had visited once. chicago's obviously another one. really any large port city that isnt in a state that didnt allow black people in it (am i remembering correctly that this is a thing about oregon?) was like this bcs ... they had to come in on boats
