Audiophiles, I need your input. I'll be buying a receiver and some basic bookshelf speakers next month for the new place. This is what I'm thinking. What are your thoughts? This is not my area of expertise. This is the receiver that I currently use (staying with dude) but I don't really know much about speakers.

@adequate go to Best Buy, buy the Sony receiver they have and however many speakers you want also from Sony. Klipsch is overpriced and I’ve gotten that feedback from multiple people

@adequate I have the STR-DH590 but if you’re only doing 2 or 4 speakers I think they make a lower end one

@adequate Can't go wrong with klipsch, I like marantz nr series receivers but honestly I'm a bit out of the loop as far as modern hardware goes. Tagging in brother @graf as he knows his shit here.

Yamaha receivers are great. I still have one from about 20 years ago. Polk Audio speakers are my go to, best bang for the buck.

@adequate @ForbiddenDreamer Marantz is made by Denon now so they are more or less interchangable on quality. Both are good. Yamaha I find the build quality is shit in the last 10-15 years and it's usually overpriced in comparison to other units in it's range. It'll sound good but you can get better in that price range for sure. All of my home audio is klipsch including my PC speakers. Highly recommend.

@adequate @ForbiddenDreamer will say since I own those speakers that if you are going to rely on them in a stereo configuration without a sub you may want to go up a size or pair it with a small sub. @adequate @ForbiddenDreamer Probably the same one I have then. I got mine heavily discounted from 2001 audio video. The owner of the company even delivered my order personally since he lives around the corner. Best buy has the 12" sub (I think you probably have the 10" selected, maybe) for 280 USD on sale rn

@adequate +1 for a marantz if you can get one. Inherited a 2270 from my dad, had it cleaned by a professional in 2014 and has been working great ever since.
