#DickCheney, one of the most powerful & polarizing vice presidents in US history, dies at 84[I hated him during his administrations, but at least he stood up to Trump, unlike the rest of the GOP cowards.]https://apnews.com/article/dick-cheney-dies-079591b529f048489650e7569bc675d2?utm_source=onesignal&utm_medium=push&utm_campaign=2025-11-04-Breaking+News

@Nonilex I was mobilized to support desert shield, desert storm, and desert farewell. I believed everything that he said. I trusted him. Then, as VP, he was equally instrumental in the second Gulf War. I was mobilized for that war too, and initially I believed him.And then we learned that he and others lied to us throughout. That is his legacy: a liar.

@Nonilex Let's not rehabilitate this one. The climate crisis is more vastly dangerous than the current fascist resurgence, and Cheney worked hard to boost it and to achieve every sort of evil we pin on Trump today. The only difference between the two is that Cheney kept his head down while he was doing it."In the first term, Cheney reshaped national security law, expanded the prerogatives of the executive branch and orchestrated secret, warrantless domestic surveillance, circumventing a court set up by Congress specifically to oversee such surveillance. He presented the president with options that led to a shutdown of negotiations with North Korea, and played a major role in persuading President Bush to go to war against Iraq.On the domestic front, he screened potential Supreme Court nominees, presided over the budget, led the selection of personnel from Cabinet officers to key lower-level positions. Without the president's knowledge, he engineered the rewriting of the president's tax bill so it included a capital gains tax break that the president had initially rejected. With the president's knowledge, he led an industry-friendly revamping of energy and environmental regulations."https://www.npr.org/2009/01/15/99422633/cheney-a-vp-with-unprecedented-power
