Is there anyone out there still producing acceptable computer mice?I currently have own two Zowie FK mice (with one of them being 12 years old) but it turns out they are no longer being produced.BenQ apparently stepped in and bought Zowie and has now stopped producing the glorious "FK" and they completely switched to making wireless crap.My requirements:* No wireless bullshit.* Absolutely no included proprietary software.* Ambidextrous design.* "Flawless" sensor.

@SuperDicq My current mouse made me choose between installing a w*ndows VM and having the blinking light on the back enabled at all times.Thankfully I had some electrical tape on hand.

@VD15@pl.valkyrie.world Any self respecting should just work with any generic USB mouse drivers on any operating system.Fuck proprietary "gamur" crapware so much.

@SuperDicq What do you mean by no wireless bullshit? Is there something wrong with wireless mice?

@Juggo@mastodon.social Yes, wireless would mean I would have to deal with dongles I can lose and batteries that need to be charged or replaced.Completely unnecessary feature for an object that never leaves the desk. It can only cause trouble.

@SuperDicq Ah, well that's fair enough. I used to have a wireless mouse, but ended up using it wired anyway in the end for the same reason. I asked cause I thought there was some software / license reason to it.

@Juggo@mastodon.social There's nothing inherently wrong with wireless mouse from a software freedom standpoint I believe.I'm just upset that my favorite mouse brand (Zowie) decided to discontinue all of their wired mouse models and now exclusively sells wireless.

@SuperDicq Logitech "land boat" G502>* Ambidextrous design.Oh well, than you are completely out of luck. Mice that try to be left and right handed at the same time all suck.

@phnt@fluffytail.org The Logitech G502 lacks 3 out of 4. It has proprietary software and lacks a flawless sensor.

@phnt@fluffytail.org Also I think ambidextrous mice don't suck. I think they are great.I am one of those weirdos who can use the mouse with both hands I sometimes like to swap between them to prevent injuries. So ambidextrous is mandatory.

@SuperDicq >it has proprietary softwareWho cares, don't use it. Unlike with the MX Series, it should even remember settings unless Logitech changed that in the last three years.https://github.com/libratbag/piper (systemd required)>lacks a flawless sensor. If stupid amounts of DPI that is configurable with a pretty good lift-of tolerance isn't flawless, than I don't know what is. I would be more annoyed that it weights a lot and is huge

@SuperDicq I'm almost perfectly (51/49) ambidextrous and find all of them annoying. They are either too small for my hand (I like to lay my whole hand on mice instead of my fingers being slightly lifted) or are made by bad manufacturers (Razer). To prevent my wrists from hurting, I tried vertical mice, but found out the hard way that they are also too small for my hand, so I instead bought the expensive MX Master which has at least some angle to it and so far it seems that is enough. I don't recommend buying it btw, it needs the Logitech software to run at all times, because it can't remember settings at all.

@phnt@fluffytail.org Systemd required is definitely an issue, as I have computers that run GNU Shepard instead.Actually I believe some Logitech mice come with PMW 3366 sensor which is fine actually. But personally I do not want stupid amounts of DPI. I use my current Zowie mouse at the lowest possible DPI setting of 400.

@SuperDicq >Systemd required is definitely an issue, as I have computers that run GNU Shepard instead.Yeah... Dbus sucks and maintainers refuse to support a different library.>But personally I do not want stupid amounts of DPI. I use my current Zowie mouse at the lowest possible DPI setting of 400.I've used my at 800 DPI the whole time until I had to stop using it months ago, because the scroll wheel bearing decided to stop being a bearing (apparently a typical issue for Logitech mice from what I've heard). Can't really blame it after a decade of use.
