@ska Yeah, I switched from Debian for Gentoo roughly when that happened, regularly seems to have been the best choice I made.

@mirabilos @ska Yes, they certainly have forgotten what Debian was supposed to be about, are apparently OK with making decisions by fiat, and have no problem condescending to thousands of users and volunteers at the same time.Like the world needs another corporate Linux distro...I even wrote a quick letter to Julian Andres Klode, requesting that he not be so dismissive of others' work, and he just replied with stupid justifications showing that he didn't understand the rather simple request or intentionally ignored it.

@SRAZKVT @ska @eric_herman Yeah I don't think either Hare or Zig would replace C.And while I quite like Hare, it's just an alternative to C. Kinda like how Perl is an alternative to shell and it's surrounding utilities but would never truly replace them.Plus C is way too entrenched into Unix, in a way C++ had the best chances at that and thankfully completely blew it up by failing to have a proper ABI.

@lanodan @eric_herman @ska @SRAZKVT >Plus C is way too entrenched into Unixthis is always something those "C replacement" devs dont seem to understand, in an operating system that has always used C, it'll be impossible to replace Cfor any language to replace C theyd have to design a new operating system using that language, similiar to what that one rust os doesand then theres also the question of gaining traction to be targeted by other devs which is not very likely in the current landscape

@SRAZKVT @eric_herman @mia @navi @ska also packaging something in hare was easy, really just packaging other dependencies (if not already done) and then linking them as build dependencies, basically just like a C applicationnot something cursed like rust lol
