Hmm...one thing I am missing on this #Sharkey account, from my old #Akkoma account, is the integration with #DeepL translations. If it exists I can't find it.As I have friends who post in all kinds of languages it is sometimes nice to be able to quickly get a good translation of a post if I think it looks like it could be of interest, but so far I haven't found similar functionality in Sharkey, which is a shame.

The drawback of not owning my own instance I guess. Ah well. For me on my old instance, the free tier of DeepL was more than enough, but I guess on a shared instance the instance itself would hit the roof rather quickly.

@mathias Akkoma also supports running a local instance of LibreTranslate, so no artificial limits. But surprising to see you gave up hosting your own Akkoma. Any specific reason why?

@kris@outmo.de I used an over-spec'd (i.e. "rather expensive") server for my Akkoma instance to start with, as I had a couple of other things on the same server, related to my company. As I am ending my consulting gig I've had for the last 4 years, and taking a permanent position as an employee I quite simply won't need that server any longer, and in an effort of cutting costs for the future I will fold that server, and the Akkoma instance on it becomes a casualty of that.I will also end the server/instance I have for Friendica for similar reasons, and am also looking at what route to take for the various web sites I host on a couple of other servers. But in the meantime it makes more sense to move my main Fediverse account to elsewhere (well, here) and let someone else host it for a bit, until I figure out what the next step is.I still love Akkoma (and Friendica for that matter), and I am also quite curious on what Bonfire will be like when they get their official release out. It isn't unlikely I will set something up during the coming year that is focused on just being a Fediverse instance/server. But in the meantime Sharkey will have to act as a replacement (as I'm still avoiding Mastodon for anything more than testing/comparing things/functionality).
