Am I going crazy or did food stamps used to have restrictions applied to what you can buy? Like I know for a fact WIC had heavy restrictions on what they'd subsidize

@RustyCrab @creamqueen @blaaablaaaa you used to get actual stamps for actual specific items, like a ration of cheese, a ration of bread, etc. Unfortunately people were buying/selling/trading the physical stamps so they moved to cards and apparently accounting is too hard. I'm pretty confident there aren't any restrictions.To make my stance clear I want it funded 100% regardless how much fraud that there is (which is not much, provably) but I agree that it should be for specific things only. But maybe I'm just being a prick with my "I can cook" privilege, IDK.

@prettygood @creamqueen @blaaablaaaa accounting would likely be pretty easy by just whitelisting SKUs on point of sale systems. You can't buy cigarettes with them right so they're already doing that to some degree.What's actually probably happening is Frito lay and every other junk food company lobbying to get their products on EBT because that's probably 60% of their profit. I wish Kennedy would take a stab at that but I know it's way too much of a sacred cow

@RustyCrab @creamqueen @blaaablaaaa @prettygood its done at the store level based on their internal catagories, if its "food" its available for food snaps, "prepared food" is a separate catagory, items dont get on ebt your thinking of wici imagine over complicated caragories would become a nightmare for businesses and that theyd have low and random compliance, and states would be very open of differential enforcement just to make things run smoothly
