@deprecated_ii It doesn't even seem to call 'permutations'. Sets don't have repeated elements, that is why it is a list of uniques. It is a bit opaque.

@mischievoustomato @EdBoatConnoisseur writing retarded indecipherable one liners is a choice you can simply not make

@mischievoustomato @deprecated_ii the pythonic the code the more retarded one liners that could have been well written multiple lines of code you will see...

@deprecated_ii In Mathematica you would just use Union[] and be done.

@mischievoustomato @EdBoatConnoisseur people who write python like this are either too-clever assholes, or they memorized the pattern from stack overflow and don't understand itapproach python like any other procedural language with classes and don't try to be "pythonic". it's much better to write verbose, simple logic than to rely heavily on language features, speaking as someone who routinely writes code in 3+ languages in the same day

@pinemarten it's a bunch of nested lists, so in python the simple way to end up with a set of items is to loop over the lists and concatenate them, then use set()the insane one liner presumably makes the loop + concatenate thing happen. but it's totally opaque. explicitly writing the loop would only be like four lines of code

@EdBoatConnoisseur Oh boy, I sure do love having pip redownload >2 GB of torch deps for every project I want to try out! :aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa: At least uv makes it bearable by caching downloads and hardlinking where possible. Never tried tensorflow but I imagine it's a similar bloated heap.

@Wpedantic tensorflow is the one serious AI MachineLearning library, and u are forced to use the python one since every other version/implementation of the library severely lags behind in features and capabilities by like 2 major versions...

@deprecated_ii Unironically yes.```pythonitems = list({ item for transaction in transactions for item in transaction})```As opposed to```pythonitems = list()for transaction in transactions: for item in transaction: if item not in items: items.append(item)```Python's got problems, but comprehensions aren't one of them.

@like50bears list(set()) :02_shrug: it doesn't actually need to be a list for the logic that follows the snippet I posted
