       @cjd @AryanSwastika Early on in life, I read a lot about Robespierre and was struck by how he really did want to help people but was trapped by his own prior arguments. He deduced and rationalized himself into a corner.This memory haunted me when I was a good postcollegiate liberal attempting to figure out why we said we wanted one thing and got totally different results, but then we used the same methods, over and over again.

       @cjd @AryanSwastika Another person in a similar position: Adolf Hitler.He came up with a cool Art Student diorama of reality, with Wagernian Evil Jews and hunchbacked Communists, but then the dogma escaped from him and carried him with it.They call him a totalitarian, but I think the problem is that he was not actually in possession of that much power, at least in the ways that mattered.
