       Just noticed that the FSF (or perhaps Richard Stallman himself?) has replaced the long-criticized joke name "Ty Coon, President of Vice" in the GPLv2 "How to Apply" section with "Moe Ghoul, President of Vice". cc: @bkuhn

       @richardfontana @bkuhn I always thought Ty Cobb was a cute pun. What were the arguments against it? The new play on words is more of a stretch, but maintains the same general shape.

       @mason it's "Ty Coon", not "Ty Cobb". As defined by Merriam-Webster, meaning 2 of "coon" is "offensive —used as an insulting and contemptuous term for a Black person" @bkuhn

       @richardfontana @bkuhn That was my phone substituting Cobb. Knowing Richard, it's incredibly unlikely he intended any sort of racist connotation. It's disappointing to treat things as racist when they're not.When my wife was a public school teacher, evidently the kids had some terrifically confused definition of "trifling".Ah, well. In today's climate, arguably overreaction is more useful than than inaction, and worlds better than outright racism.

       @mason I don't think anyone ever accused RMS of intending any racist connotation, though I think it is fair to say that he stubbornly refused to later acknowledge that the joke name was offensive @bkuhn

       @mason Aficionados of GPLv3 arcania will know that there was an earlier (ultimately unsuccessful) attempt to replace Ty Coon in the release of Discussion Draft 1 of GPLv3 in January 2006 (in that case, with "Rich R. Thanus, Peripheral Visionary") @bkuhn
