@tay @cinebox @julie yeah if you want to make sex toys with a 3d printer, you have to do in a multi-step molding process to make it safe. Basically you don't 3D print a dildo, you 3D print a mold to make another mold, then pour silicone into that second mold to make the actual toy

I'm probably gonna try and turn the Ender 5 into a severely overgrown plotter. since the extruder and hot end are the parts that are unreliable. No need for either of them if the thing is just raising and lowering a pen and driving around the build plate

@foone It helps them calculate the social score of everything you print (/s maybe?)Check into running it in LAN mode if you can, so it doesn't rely on their cloud infrastructure and additional vendor lock-in nonsense. They are decent printers/hardware but the company that runs them has been doing some questionable stuff with the firmware and their business in general. For a lot of people who just want to print things, they're fine printers, but they are not very open.

@foone Honestly, the only parts of my "Ender 3" that are Ender 3 parts are the frame, the stepper motors, and the controller (which is running klipper, so really just the board). If it had been born a "5" maybe I could have kept the rollers. It was a long, educational journey.

@foone That should be pretty rock solid. My X1C has been mostly set up and forget, it just needs the lead screws lubricated every few months and once in a while filament jams in the AMS (mainly due to the occasional subpar spool winding).

there's some minor issues which I think are caused by the printer wobbling. it's not on the most steady table, and this one is moving WAY faster than the ender 5. so maybe I'll slow it down until we can get a new place to mount it

BTW for the reference, the gender question was an optional profile field in the app that I bothered to click on. it's not like the printer demanded my gender before it'd let me print.

also the little monochrome LCD it has is small-but-not-too-small, cute, and has amazing contrast. I'm kinda envious, as I'm currently working on my own monochrome-LCD (although the current prototype is an OLED) project (ProgKey), and now I'm like "why doesn't mine look like this?"

(realistic answer: I'm not making my own PCBs here (and I don't want something breadboarded), so I'm limited by what I can get in modules by waveshare or similar)

alternatively I should figure out if I get replacement Bambuu LCDs for cheap, and maybe I'll just turn it into a keyboard

@saricchiella that's the thing, no one ever asks me to do dinner first! if they wanna know what's in my pants so much, convince me! romance me! don't just ask it cause I bought a printer.

@foone For all these bambu printers are at risk of corpo bullshit (IIRC bambu backed down last time they tried it) they are really reliable 3d printers.

@foone Mine wobbles like hell at full speed and has never failed a print.I think the printer itself is rigid enough that the motion doesn't really affect it, or it's compensating at least.

@tony I just figured it was probably making my prints less accurate than they'd otherwise be. It's not bad enough that I'd worry about failing a print, but it's probably adding a bit more x/y inaccuracy

@foone Yeah possibly.. for the prints I do it's never been an issue as I'm not selling the results, just printing random useful stuff. Although looking at the weeping angel on my desk if it has any x/y drift I can't see it.

@foone I don't think $30 counts as "for cheap" but that is the cost of the entire assembly with screen direct from bambulab as a replacement part.

@Enema_Cowboy it's asking the wrong question, then. your gender doesn't indicate your parts in these parts, (in this house, especially)

@foone Is the table real wobbly? I have my A1 + AMS Lite on top of a 2 x 2 Kallax shelf. It wobbles for sure because that A1 can sling that bed with force. But no print issues yet. I am going to at some point replace the table. I thought Core X Y shook less than bed slingers? (I assume you ran vibration compensation? You can also get anti vibration feet. Or print them in TPU if you’re feeling brave)

@foone Another thing could be do replace the extruder with a Dremel tool, so that you then can route PCBs.

@foone One of the reason why I was shunning 3D printers for so long was because of reliability.I have a similar model here - works like a charm. I also have the AMS. I didn't print much yet, but so far all my prints were fine.I even once accidentally pulled the power plug in the middle of a print. Plugged it back in expecting the print to be a complete failure, but no. The printer came back on line and asked to resume the print and then it continued as if nothing happened.
