TrueNAS 25.10 has been released!Oooooh nice! I wonder what's new :neocat_3c:SMART Monitoring: Built-in UI removed.Uh, what do you mean, "removed"? :neocat_laugh_sweat:SMART monitoring is handled through dedicated applications or user-managed scripts. The Scrutiny app provides comprehensive disk health monitoring. So, let me get this straight... A NAS operating system... Removed SMART monitoring settings from it's built-in UI, in favor of a third-party service to which you need to give raw access to your drives? And if you want to retain the same old functionality, you need to tinker with manual cron jobs, buried in the system settings, using midclt call commands? :neocat_angry:What even is this timeline :burn_it_all:

@cichy1173@mastodon.social the problem with this integration is that it requires the Zabbix agent, which isn't available on TrueNAS :apensive: even though it's based on Debian, it's an appliance OS and any modification (except configuration changes) are reset after each update (or reboot)To monitor TrueNAS, one need to use SNMP, which I already do with Zabbix, but in my opinion it lacks a bunch of elements to be as useful as I'd like it to be...

@shammers@mastodon.coffee do you know how long 25.04 is going to be supported? I can't seem to find an official statement other than "yeah update whenever you want based on your security requirements" which feels like it could mean "we won't support it so if you want to run outdated software, that's on you buddy" :cat_flop:

@thegarbagebird@theblower.au first they removed the virtual machines system, replaced with an experimental "instances" one, requiring manual migration, before re-introducing it months later, then this? :cat_flop:

@louis If I remember it right, TrueNAS supports Docker so installing Zabbix-Agent2 using Docker isn't sufficient there?

@cichy1173@mastodon.social it could be? I don't know, but I'd surely need to run this container in a privileged mode and hope that it'd be able to see as much as if it was running on the host itself, and I don't really like giving access to my disks and data to a privileged container.. and even then, I feel like it'd be a hacky solution to a problem that didn't need to exist in the first place. There's no guarantee that iX Systems will not just Thanos snap this feature out of existence in the future like they did with virtual machines before :old_man_yells_at:
