* Cat isn't eating medicine (served crushed and blended in meat paste treat she loves)* Trying stirring it to make it interesting? cat is not interested* She is however begging for food* Try sprinkling a few dry treats on top of the paste* She is interested! * Return to find the paste all eaten, dry treats *ignored* *scorned* (she carefully ate around them)She's so mysterious, but if anyone can solve this puzzle beyond just "cats, yeah" I'd love the insights.

@futurebird I wonder if she thought she was outsmarting you by eating around the pills. She knew something was up, but the stirred paste was all suss, until there was a more obvious target to avoid. One of my cat was able to "swallow" without actually swallowing the tiny shard I needed her to take. (A very small pill that got quartered). I once held her head up, mouth closed, and stroking her throat for 15 clock minutes, and at least 6+ detected "swallows." When I let her go, she looked me in the eye, walked over to a wooden chair, and deposited the now-mushy shard on the chair leg. Then sat next to it, to make sure I observed her mastery of the situation.

@futurebird Our cat Tiberius needed prednisolone for a bowel condition. He would not eat food with the medication mixed in and he had a genius-level gift for spitting out any pill we gave him. A friend suggested getting a compounding pharmacy to make a liquid formulation and that worked great for us. Tiberius still wasn't happy about taking the medication but it was quick to give it to him and he would swallow it.Hoping all goes well for you and the cat 🙏

@futurebird My guess is - you acted suspiciously mixing up the paste and she was on to you- then got intrigued by the dry treats- realized it's actually the paste she loves so decided to eat it or - realized it's the paste she loves but got things mixed up, she knew one of the two treats was poisoned but couldn't figure out which one, also nom nom nom

@futurebird my cat generally hated treats but enjoyed (more or less) medicated "treats" that i ordered from a compounding pharmacy for her... dunno if that's an option but it's been one of the only things that's worked for me in the past

@futurebird I gave up on beeing nice a long time ago as my cat gets 2 pills every day until the rest of his life. Its year 3 now for his meds. So i catch him, gently tickle his mouth and throw down the pills his throat. We agreed to both hate this procedure but accept what is necessary. He takes it easy unless for the catching part which he hates. Some things are not easy...

@futurebird one of my cats has to take a pill twice a week, so I break it in half and wrap each half in a tiny piece of cheddar. He loves cheese and gobbles it down. I had to start giving my other cat a little piece of cheese too because he thought he was being denied treats.

@futurebird My old cat would eat something with a pill embedded in it, hold it in her mouth, then walk over to the darkest room in the house, spit it out quick out the side of her mouth behind a doorway and I'd be all like "Okay Ms Bond, we're gonna have to foil you some other way"

@futurebird We once had a cat who was genuinely really smart AS CATS GO. We had to give her pills once and it was right after Thanksgiving so we had lots of leftover turkey. I gave her a little turkey snack with a ball of turkey pressed around the pill sitting on top. Came back to find a clean bowl with a pristine pill in the center, all turkey removed. So I "pilled" her in the classic way. The next and each subsequent time she ate the bit with the pill first and then enjoyed the rest.
