Major doubt on this. I live in Staffs Moorland, and know of at least three in the only town in the area. (But yes, pretty unlikely to have any up here on the moors!)

@Flick I notice that there is a big uptick in Inverness again these last months, much more sitting in doorways again.

@Flick Are they definitely there overnight, though? Some homeless-but-not-rough-sleepers sit begging (even in sleeping bags) during the day.And some people are trafficked and placed in positions in towns to beg, being taken there by bus each morning and collected in the evening. Sometimes their traffickers rotate them, to try people in different spots. It’s a new reason to only ask if people need anything from the shop, and never to give them money. It’s also a reason to make conversation with them and offer assistance (which they will refuse), especially if it is a young woman who is more likely to tell you things by mistake in my experience, because then you can report the trafficking to crimestoppers and hopefully get them some help.

@Gabble I’m told they are, by people likely to know (eg the greengrocer, who keeps very early hours).
