       this evening I visited Shirtzenpantz thriftshop in St. John’s PDX and the proprietor‘s 87 yr old grandmother invited me to see the secret room. i followed her through an antique wardrobe into a blue-lit closet she had decorated with quilted river scenes and stuffed salmon hanging from the ceiling

       she pointed to a comfy chair and had me sit down, explaining she’d sewn the wall hangings, which depicted salmon being stopped by a dam and other aquatic scenes. She said “this is a room to come and relax, or to have a special conversation. a secret room” the room also had a drum and didjeridoo
