installing is really fast when you make the hard drive, floppy drive, and CD-ROM unreasonably fast

The year is 2004. I'm downloading Java so that I can play Puzzle Pirates. The platform sucks, but it's all we have. The year is 2025. I'm updating Java so that I can play Minecraft. The platform sucks, but it's the only version worth playing.

@foone Annoying with old games that try to give you playing tips on the loading screen, but you never see them because SSD.

@foone this evoked very conflicting memories. On one hand, I think 4.11 was my favorite version. On the other hand, we were dealing with a data corruption issue which occasionally flipped a random bit in files. IIRC it turned out to be related to enabling IDE DMA mode in BIOS (which you would normally want in a file server). I like to think that 4.11 was where the issue disappeared.

@foone Yeah, that was the last version of Netware I tried to run. Up to 3.x it was really good and very fast.

@CIOSAI_tw yeah the way LCDs/OLEDs/AMOLEDs work with old bit patterns like this is often very surprising
