Most of us are dissatisfied with the #NobelPeacePrize in one way or anotherWhatever you think of the recent choice of #MaríaCorinaMachado, I hearby announce, with absolutely zero authority whatsoever, that the People's Choice Peace Prize, which I just made up, should go to the #ERRsThe what?#Sudan’s Emergency Response Rooms"Most are young women. They feed the hungry, restore electricity, fix water wells, evacuate civilians..."https://www.economist.com/middle-east-and-africa/2025/10/16/sudans-remarkable-mutual-aid-groupshttps://archive.ph/lA1Ks#selection-1265.195-1265.366#MutualAid

@benroyce Hey, we can't have progress on anything if we don't take matters into our own hands and make some shit up!

@MaryAustinBooks 100% correctwe need less blame games and looking to others to fix things, and more fixing things ourselvesOf course that's hard, since the people fucking everything up suck up all of our money and time- the plutocrat parasitesBut something is better than nothing but complaining and making angry, well articulated but eventually fruitless demandsAnd our effort can eventually serve as a platform to challenge the plutocracy

@benroyce In a completely different context from Sudan-- but with the same spirit-- there are people all over the US who are working on mutual aid that we need to have a general strike. Many are people in hyper targeted groups who can't go to protests, but the work they are doing is just as essential. I know these people locally, I follow them in other places, and they are amazing. We're gonna have a general strike forced on us when the economy crashes, and their efforts will save many lives.

@benroyce We all saw how useless the regime was about the Texas floods. But the 50501 movement actually mobilized people from other Texas cities to help with search and rescue and provide emergency supplies! It got no coverage other than the social media links I posted, but it was an incredible show of how powerful the movement had already become.Protests themselves are critical, but the movement is so much more than even that. The organizers know mutual aid is the other side of the coin.

@benroyce @MaryAustinBooks I am still be-fucking-fuddled by the person on here who was like “all you rubes boycotting Disney are so stupid. The only thing worth doing is voting” And I was like “you can do both and maybe it’s not helpful to discourage people from taking an action?”Then he told me boycotts never work and blocked me. It is not that complex an idea to hold in your head that people doing something you think isn’t that useful can also do other things. The day is long.

@minmi @benroyce @MaryAustinBooks That's very silly. Consumer boycotts are mild sauce and also kind of obvious. To me they are very similar to voting. It's obviously not enough but kind of the bare minimum if you are serious about anything at all. (And if there is no one worth voting for still show up and just write something in. It shows that you exist.)

@futurebird @benroyce @MaryAustinBooks It was extremely silly. I think that’s why I’m stuck obsessing over it long past when I should have just let it go.

@futurebird @minmi @benroyce @MaryAustinBooks I think there's also an effect of getting you doing something. When I've returned to the gym machines after a long absence, my first round is with the minimal weight, just to remind my body.(And when there's nobody worth voting for there's almost always someone worth voting against! 😃)
