Fruitlessly gonna ask for advice here butHow do you actually nail down a consistent style across characters for a story? Like i have such a huge net in how i draw shapes and proportions that my characters, to me, feel like they are from diff stories.Which is obviously not what I want. Style design consistently is difficult for a brain w/ too many guys using it :’(

I tried seeing what character design advice is out there but all my searches could yield was how to draw ONE character consistently, not a range of characters w/ A consistent unified “we’re from the same story” feel. I need those professional character designer advice hacks but I have zero friends in animation so LOLPlease if u know any videos or resources I could use it.

To clarify: it’s not a model sheet or chara lineup issue (those just show the problem to me), it’s a “knowing how and when to curate shapes to have a cast with different proportions but a overall unified feeling”. I don’t want my characters to look like the cast from Drawn Together

Here’s a clearer example of wtf im talking about like i obviously see the differences but what am i doing to keep style consistent? How do u pull visual elements to smth more together? I am going insane why is my art doing this This is an over exaggerated example but the little nuances do add up between characters and throw the whole vibe off. im sad i cant wield my style shifts in any worthwhile way

@afairmaiden Damn, consistency is super, super hard to achieve. There will always be several discrepancies design and style wise as you keep drawing, like is an inherent part of it. I know there's people who is good at it, but I have no idea how they do it... like if you ask for advice they'll tell you to keep drawing... like, "duh, no shit!". What I think it really helps is to create rules for your character designs and character sheets with well defined proportions, expressions, etc.

@afairmaiden Ah! now I get it, sorry for the last advice. You mean like a unified style, like something you can identify as being from X or Y show right? I think it should have something to do on how you incorporate shapes and play with them to design your characters, but being super aware of it it's what makes it harder. There will always be slight differences and discrepancies with designs... unless you are going for a "family guy" kind of thing? like super ultra consistent.
