@jalefkowit This is a wonderful moment to suggest to management that they look into AWS alternatives "as we enter more unstable times" or whatever. I've been told getting of AWS is harder than quitting heroin ... but I'm told people do that too and live.

@futurebird @jalefkowit have some AWS methadone suggestions lined up, I suppose. Side note: I've boycotted Amazon for nearly 20 years now so it's crazy annoying when a company I've gone to the effort of seeking out to buy direct from, then uses AWS or Amazon logistics. Their grip is insane.

@Flisty @jalefkowit Few things are more heroic than getting your company off Amazon, either for office supplies (they love the centralized invoices but you will save money if you adapt and learn to shop again) or AWS ... which I know less about but I've seen it done.

@futurebird @jalefkowit the Prime ads in the UK at the moment are mindboggling. One of them is a mum and daughter playing with a singing cactus toy that runs out of batteries. It shows their house and they live in an old terrace, which means they live within walking distance of shops. But they use Prime to same-day batteries. For a toy cactus. WTF. Tldr: I find the convenience argument incredibly grating. You'll be paying more and the driver who brings it will be getting screwed over too.

@Flisty @jalefkowit I've been thinking about making some "how to shop" videos that teach how one can go to a store or even order things online but not on Amazon.

@futurebird @jalefkowit not a bad idea! People do seem to think Amazon is the only shop, just like Google is the only search engine and Uber is the only taxi. Not even taxi actually - just mode of transport.

@futurebird @Flisty @jalefkowit Excellent idea! I am constantly irked to see people at the post office receiving Amazon packages. I realized the harm Amazon does and started boycotting them years ago. Even now, I have a hard time trying to win friends over to this point of view, because of stupid comfort. They're inured to comfort, and "it's just cheaper". If we all undertook a little discomfort, we could end the great harms to people and the Earth that Amazon causes. Please keep us posted!👍
