Have your electric bills gone up in the past 6 months?

@futurebird Sorry, my mistake! My information is not for the USA, it's for Germany.

@futurebird Given we have just had "summer" my gas and electric bills were well down as I expected. I do pay a standard amount each month by Direct Debit which is a projected 12 months usage split into 12 portions. This actually went down in September as I had built up a sizable credit balance which will be used in the winter.

@futurebird The charges have gone up but the bills have gone down because I fixed a fault of six years standing created by a registered professional who was of absolutely no help in resolving the issue.

@futurebird Thanks to air conditioning, our electric bills always go up in the North American summer. They are on the downslope now but will be countered by the rising gas bills (heat)

@blotosmetek @kalfatermann I wanted to hear from everyone? This was not a US only poll, although that might be interesting to do at some point. Just curious if people on here have noticed the price going up.

@futurebirdSo there are generation charges and delivery charges. Generation charges are paid to legs that generate electricity... Thermal power plants, solar power generators, wind, etc. The power company is a middle man for these, but also generates some of the power. Then theres distribution charges, these are paid to the organization that owns the transmission lines, everything from the local "telephone poles" to the high voltage transmission towers, and switching substations.@dianea

@futurebird @blotosmetek Thank you! (No they are the same)A few minutes ago, I checked that I hadn't said anything wrong. Since I unfortunately still have to heat with an electric oil radiator, I signed up for a fixed-price package (0.42 Euro = 0.49 USD /kWh), so my prices will remain stable til April 2026. But I often reduce the room temperature and just put on more clothes. My father's advice - like lumberjacks - always wear several layers of clothing and use more or less clothes.

@futurebirdI installed a house battery last month and moved to a dynamic priced electric provider, so I'm hoping I can even things out a bit. Though, as usual, the fixed costs far outweigh my usage — almost two to one.

@futurebird My electric bills go down in summer and up in winter, because of the solar panels on the roof.So while I answered "they have gone down" in the past six months, that will not be the case for the next six months.

@futurebird Cost per KwH, personal graph over the past 25 years. Our average usage per month over that same period is back to levels from 25 year ago...amazing that having less kids in the house and general efficiency improvements will do for you.
