There was some discussion earlier today about CCTV/camera solutions after I condemned Internet panopticon cams.I have unique constraints. In urban areas it's easy to trench a 50' run of direct-burial PoE. But when you're talking about a driveway gate that may be 3/10ths of a mile from your switch...I've spent some time on a long-form blog post (something I rarely do) about how I've solved this problem to my own satisfaction on the off chance it's helpful to y'all.#BringingBackTheBlogSoon

@eriner I am putting together similar for a client, using a Ubiquiti radio that as a pass-through PoE to run the camera, so only one PoE injector in a weather-proof box on a pole to monitor fuel tanks on a farm (tanks have power to run the pumps).

@eriner There was a discussion from @ThatCrazyDude on this a while back. I use TP-Link CPE710 wifi extenders. Directional dishes good for 15km direct line of sight. Mine are a quarter mile apart going through a few hundred feet of solid trees. They come with omni directional wifi hotspots built in and the normal cat5 line out you can plug in a camera or router.
