did you know ITU has a document with the exact frequencies of dialtones and busy tones for every region? https://www.itu.int/ITU-T/inr/forms/files/tones-0203.pdfvery useful for getting modem handshakes period- and region-correct

i don't think i have perfect pitch or anything, but i can easily tell whether a recording i hear today matches a dialtone i've last heard 20 years ago or not

@whitequark "Perfect pitch" is misnamed. It's pitch memory. Most people can remember a pitch, and anyone can train to extend the duration of that memory. I don't think anyone is born with it.
