🔞 Platforms have no excuse to continue practices that put children at risk. We’ve asked Snapchat, YouTube, Apple App Store and Google Play for more information on the measures they have in place to protect minors. This is the first investigatory step after the adoption of the Guidelines on the Protection of Minors, now also available in all EU languages and in a child- and parent-friendly version. @EUCommission Oh my god, stop this age verification madness. It's parents' job to make sure their children don't access anything harmful! Literally nobody wants this!

@EUCommission As a parent my biggest worry for the safety of my children is that _you_ want to take away their right to secure their communication.

@urwumpe @EUCommission Yep. It protects no one, gives the EU/governments unnecessary power, and creates perfect opportunities for scammers.

@Razemix @urwumpe @EUCommission Yes, a Discord age verification partner recently had a leak so that people’s emails, photos etc. were exposed.

@EUCommission@ec.social-network.europa.eu Shame on you for using children protection as an excuse to implement mass surveillance.

@EUCommission@ec.social-network.europa.eu Reading through the article, I am glad you are taking steps to protect minors online, but I encourage you to keep those steps around ensuring kids are aware of what is okay to do online and what could very literally ruin their life. Taking away European Citizen's privacy with the excuse of child protection is NOT something that will work. It is a pitty and very overused excuse to take away our privacy rights you have, until now, worked hard to maintain. I, and many others, encourage you to shift your focus to methods I am sure you are already implementing, to ensure children are not sharing things they shouldn't online. Restricting access isn't necessarily a good fix either. To actually make an impact, we MUST tackle the source of these issues, which is deeply engrained in society and will not go away by putting a police man in everyone's pocket computer. It requires more work, but it actually accomplished something, unlike the approach you seem to be prioritising right now, which will not accomplish anything except make everyone more vulnerable, and deeply cripple democracy, and society in general.

@EUCommission It's so tiresome to see you guys come up with a 1984 different ways to say that you just want to spy on your subjects.Just be honest about it already.
