Saw this meme flying around and the funny thing about it being 10 years old is the historiography on wikipedia actually now disagrees with the claims:1. no sending Novgorod Latin missionaries and waging 1 war does not equal frequent wars with the orthodox. The wars against poland and proto Poland-Lithuania were over competing land claims which both sides would not back down from. Not Teutons killing poles on random2. "Wreak havoc on your HOMELANDS by constantly attacking true Europeans.": Wouldn't attacking your homeland in the name of conquest mean that your actively liberating your own land?3. The Eastern Roman Empire for centuries had a distrust of Western Europe and ultimately the decline was way before the sack by the venetians see the: Battle of Manzikert and the fact that the Turks controlled the interior of Anatolia. (also no evidence for raping of nuns)4.Strawman no one claims this save for the Reconquista and campaigns in Italy5. >being anti Albigensian Crusade. So this white nationalist complains about crusaders depleting the white population yet thinks that hyper celabacy where marriage was discouraged should not have been delt with? Pick one6. >30 years warLiterally skips the crusades on the Ottomans, the Catholic Mediterranean league, the hussites, the Proto cossack wars on the Golden Horde, Reconquista and wars in North Africa and skips 3 centuries to the 30 years war which is out of the timeframe of the crusades.7. The Reconquista was literally successful and Portugal was defacto liberated in 1147. The reason why it took so long was because the Christians practiced population relocations where muslims were booted and Christians given land which is a slow process. The guy who made this clearly did not read the wikipedia articles he sites and only read some statistics pertaining to the crusades

@Weebnats >being anti Albigensian Crusade. You have to be high on ackshuallyism to not support what was done there. It sucked, and even the people doing it didn’t want to do it , but you had a religious and political fifth column that had fully infiltrated the area and zero ways to differentiate them from natives. Unavoidable unfortunately.

Before christianity there was no need for absolute religious conformity throughout the continent. It simply wasn't considered a problem. It was absolutely avoidable, they could have simply decided not to do it.

@Eiregoat @Weebnats You cannot ignore the political situation of what was happening. I was unfamiliar until I heard @Godcast explain it, and it’s seldom mentioned in books. There was a coup in the works and the cultists were allegedly fueling it. I will have to do some more homework on this, but I investigated it after the godcast episode and came away convinced it was the right call.

1. If it was just a land grab then that still means crusaders were engaging in land-grabs from their fellow christians rather than doing their job. Not to mention that the teutons were set up specifically to christianise the baltic. If you want to defend that then fine, but be honest that that's what they were doing. Not defending Europe from brown hordes.2. Not unless they're occupied by an outside force, which they weren't.3. Sure, the crusades didn't cause the decline of the eastern empire (the roman imperial model was inherently a declining one) but they definitely helped kill it off.4. No idea what you're referring to5. Every christian church at the time venerated celibacy, many still do. Pretty much every christian saint up until that point had adopted celibacy, it was seen as an admirable state of purity people should attempt to reach. The cathars were not suppressed for promoting celibacy, they were suppressed for rejecting the authority of the pope.6. Whataboutery. Christianity *did* ignite centuries of religious wars which did not need to happen and largely had not been an issue prior.7. But nonetheless, the carolingians did make the decision to focus on religious purges in Germany rather than kick out the browns to their south. This decision only made sense in the context of a religious culture that demands absolute orthodoxy. If a white nationalist today suggested "ok, the muslim invasion is bad, but we should really be focussing on wiping out [insert white religious group]" then they'd be castigated and rightly so.

@Eiregoat @Weebnats There’s also another point about the Crusades I’ll borrow from a certain Austrian Painter, from “Bolshevism from Moses to Lenin”
