This graph says it all: instead of starting to go down, the *annual increase* of atmospheric CO2 is setting new records. We're making climate change worse at a record rate. Turning this around should be our top priority, and it's not. From: https://www.carbonbrief.org/met-office-atmospheric-co2-rise-now-exceeding-ipcc-1-5c-pathways/

@Sustainable2050 lol, expecting it to go down without any meaningful change is like expecting to have more money without stopping to spend it all.

I think most people still don't really get the irreversibility of this. Once we get the growth of atmospheric CO2 to zero (the sooner, the better!), climate change will have gotten a lot worse than it already is. And it'll be a heck of a job to meaningfully reduce CO2 again.

And keeping atmospheric CO2 in check is already becoming harder, as we're running into this: https://mastodon.energy/@Sustainable2050/115373914481609658

This is not doomerism. It's facing the facts. And it's not a reason to give up, but a call to redouble our efforts. And vote for the climate, in countries where that's possible.

@kaia @Sustainable2050 Think of the cars that produce 2% of CO2. Are you thinking about air and boat freight, stop now!
