I will call "No Kings" a big success. Multiple outlets are reporting on millions of participants. It was bigger than the one in the summer. A lot of people participating in something like this for the first time.It was national and even a little international (Thank you London and Dublin)No one can say the president or his regime has broad popular support or a mandate.

@futurebird bigger than the summer one would be heartening; i hope you’re right. what i’m seeing (anecdotes, not data) from social media posts is high percentages in numerous small towns (often around 10% of a 4-digit population) but major city turnouts that, while 6 digits strong, are less than 1% of the city’s population.

They were not one day affairs rather open ended 56 days in 2000 and a week in 2022. @futurebird But...he still retains power, still owns Congress, the Senate, the Supreme Court. He is openly mocking the protests. It'll be interesting to see if this has any meaningful impact other than showing future history readers that there were people who cared and tried to stand up. Maybe it'll scare other elected politicians who care about holding onto their power and jobs if they thing significant numbers of their base are switching sides?

People in favor of the strike meet to discuss politics, work on local projects like cleaning and repairing homes, stream cleanup, etc.You may say that I'm a dreamer but I'm not the only one. I don't think this is as generally applicable as it might seem. Maybe for the retail and parts of the private sector it could make sense, but not everyone works there.

We are an independent union but the dominant large nurses union uses the 1 day strikes a lot. For hospitals at least most can cancel electives and hold on for a day but open ended is much harder for them To be fair its hard on everybody
