OpenAI going into the online porn business. 'The AI bubble is popping.'Oil prices fall. 'The AI bubble is popping.'Crypto prices fall. 'The AI bubble is popping.'Gold price skyrockets. 'The AI bubble is popping.'Not seeing the logic.

@judgedread It might be popping... Just not anytime soon. The dot com bubble took years to build up.

@NitroDubs There's an argument that there was no internet bubble as the internet turned out to be far more profitable than the valuations at the time priced in... just not for those companies.

@judgedread That makes sense. A lot of exuberance at the beginning, a correction, followed by transformation. AI could do the same thing.

@NitroDubs One optimist prediction is that all the AI coding companies will become obsolete overnight when you can prompt the general purpose AI with, 'Make me an app that does X.'Or even more extreme, 'Hey AI, make me a sequel to Star Wars that doesn't suck.'Check out Nanobanana's threat to Adobe's business model.

Adobe's business model has been you'll own none of our software and you'll hate using it. So Nanobanana can't tank it fast enough.

@judgedread Why should there be any? Maybe everything is driven by people trying to influence the markets.

@VikingWays Once they perfected Photoshop there was no reason to upgrade, so revenue started drying up. Also the font business was dying thanks to the death of print. The SAAS grift was their lifeline.

@maritzaamin I knew an artist who bought the last version of Adobe Creative Suite you could really own. He used it for many years until system updates broke it.

@judgedread I have Adobe CS 5 and it still works on a modern PC - you just have to know enough about your PC to keep it running. I've installed pirated versions of CS 5 on windows 11 boxes. It's not windows who broke it - it was ADOBE. Step 1 is preventing your Creative suit from talking to Adobe's servers using your hosts file. Step 2 is turning off the auto updates in your CS preferences. Adobe deliberately bricks old versions of their software if you try to patch it. The jews running things on their board should be holocausted. Because of their greed, now we have to deal with fucking canva... and that shit is orders more predatory.

@StarProphet @SilverDeth @judgedread I haven't used any Adobe products since I had Windows XP. I depend on Linux and the GIMP for that stuff now.

@SirDudeNamedBenOnymous @StarProphet @judgedread My issue with gimp is that is has major problems with layered tiff files, and in the professional world, that is a serious issue. For a lot of high-end design work, .tiff is the gold standard for raster images. I don't know why the devs of gimp have never addressed the issue. Also, gimp's selection tool, gradient tool and image resize interface is trash. I love the guys who make it, and fully support the project, but those elements are absolutely garbage.

@SilverDeth There's a format I haven't thought of in a long time... a long time. Not sure it even has any relevance to web images.

@judgedread Yeah it's fine for meme-images and normie-work, but I still have people coming to me occasionally with "professional" grade design problems, and poor gimp just isn't up to the task. I wish that wasn't the case, because Adobe richly deserves to get knocked on their ass - and Canva inheriting the throne is even worse.
