It's funny how people go through eight to twenty years of education with things like dyslexia, autism, ADHD, aphantasia, various agnosies, etc. undiagnosed, when it often takes me ten minute conversation with them to start suspecting spicy brains. What are the teachers even doing?

@piggo If the goal is learning, shouldn't the whole thing begin with a test for any learning impairments or special needs, possibly repeated regularly at critical times, so you can tell how to best approach it? How can you even evaluate your own teaching performance and make improvements when you don't know what additional barriers are present in particular cases?

@piggo Why not? This is literally where the next generation of employees is coming from. It translates directly into work performance and the profits of the decision makers.

@deshipu @piggo you would not believe how many parents would scream bloody murder (and, in some countries, threaten to sue) if a teacher suggested that their child was neurodivergent. it's horrifyingly common.

@deshipu @piggo there's also the historical aspect; we never did this in the 90/00s because the diagnostics were garbage. I had all the classic ADHD symptoms, teachers frequently made reference to those symptoms to my parents, I got referred to a child psychologist... zero mention of ADHD because back then it was "oh you don't have ADHD because you're not running around uncontrollably screaming all the time". so that's what overstimulated autistic folks frequently got diagnosed with. whole mess.
