I know it isn't even Halloween yet, but is anyone else getting excited to cook for the holidays?

@eriner I’ve never been one to want anything but the actual dinner. That does look very nice but it isn’t worth the effort or trying to store the leftovers for me.

@Murray_N you can only do it if you’re serving a lot of people, like a dozen+ adults. Otherwise yeah, too much work. But it’s nice because you can keep people out of the kitchen while you cook the rest, which if it’s for a dozen+ adults, is a fair bit of food and sometimes takes a bit if your timing is off.

@eriner My big gathering days are over.My parents are dead, my wife’s dad is dead and her mom was just diagnosed with cancer at 90.My wife’s kids are in different states but even if they come back they are split between us and their dad’s side.My sister is on the other side of the country.I used to cook all the holiday dinners but now it’s just for my wife and I.Still have leftovers for a week……

@eriner Not so much excited to be cooking exactly. I’m getting excited about the holidays in general. From October 1st until January 2nd is my favorite time of the year.

@eriner I've been tempted to take over Thanksgiving from my mother-in-law so that I can try doing turkey on the smoker (despite never having cooked a turkey via any method in my life 😅)

@Murray_N @eriner similar here. My diet is almost 100% beef, so cooking fancy things makes little sense.

@LadyButters @eriner I did the smoked turkey one year and despite it being good the consensus was to go back to traditional turkey.Same with deep fried.I have to agree because I’m all about the gravy and you don’t get any via those other methods.

@Murray_N @LadyButters traditional, Alton Brown “turkey triangle”. That and a big-ass deep pan is all you need for excellent Turkey.

@eriner @LadyButters We did bend “the rules” a bit when we went to the Ronco Rotisserie. It’s great for turkey, chicken and prime ribs.Collects enough dripping to add to gravy that’s made by doing a chicken a day or two before and cooking down the carcus. It’s nice having the separation done before Thanksgiving night. That used to be the hold up…..waiting for drippings to separate.

@Murray_N @eriner Oh yes I've had one of those rotisserie ovens for over a decade (mine's definitely not big enough for a whole turkey, but man does it make some good chicken)

@eriner @Murray_N @LadyButters Turkey Roaster. Easiest way and like having a second oven you can put in the laundry room or garage while it cooks.
