It frustrates me to read in the news that several organizations have started to #trash many functioning computers just because #Windows 10 was EOLed.WTF. You rather throw away 1000s of computers that weren’t broken and contribute to e-waste than go out of your comfort zone ONCE and learn about #FOSS operating systems?The e-waste problem is already bad enough, don’t make it WORSE.#EndOf10 #environment #capitalism

@Pi_rat Realistically most of them will go to landfill - only a few will end up being resold or donated.This has occurred during every single major windows release.Most of such computers are unfortunately quite recent and therefore are digitally handcuffed to be e-waste out of the factory - even though most will still run Trisquel GNU/Linux-libre just fine.@Wuzzy There are no "FOSS" operating systems - as "FOSS" is an attempt to be neutral between corporate bootlicking ("open source") and the freedom of free software.There are proprietary versions of GNU/Linux, proprietary BSDs and free GNU/Linux-libre distros.

@Wuzzy I agree, especially since if you disconnect Windows network and a few vital services those Win10 machines will be perfectly secure for ordinary uses.Expanding on your point, we should look at all older gear as functional until it physically stops working. No point raising our "landfill count" any more or faster than we have to.

I recently picked up a dell xps core2duo tower. Mf'er probably weighs 50lbs. I cleaned it last week, amd checked to see if it at least turned on. I haven't had time to boot it yet though. I don't even know where to stick it for testing. It's pretty big.
