I'm not worried about them making people stick to the speed limit, I already drive like 20km/h under.I'm more worried about them deciding I can't leave my area more than twice a month without special permission (they've already started implementing this in some cities). Or that they announce another lockdown and everyone's cars stop working.

@Humpleupagus @PNS I don't see how the auto start/stop hasn't resulted in a class action. It delays your ability to take off and merge with traffic, thus endangering you and other motorists.

Try buying a car that doesn't have a computer controlled engine. You can't.In theory you can build your own car, register it, have it inspected and not have any of that stuff in it, but almost no one will and where I live the insurers won't touch it, so you couldn't drive it on public roads.They're fine with you ditching a car and riding a bike btw, that just means they control your practical radius of travel.

@Eiregoat @PNS @Eiswald The issue is how the car has spyware - which is unrelated to the ECU.You can still find plenty of used cars without such spyware or any cellular modem.You can also still find classic cars for a great expense and some not that old cars have logic circuit ECU's, rather than computerized ECU's.You can do an engine swap to one with a carbed engine, or with an ECU that runs free software and chances are nobody will ever find out.
