But the existence of political ideology in the physical sense (as a motivating factor for political action) comes entirely from politics post-French Revolution. You can't really post-ideologize historical political movements prior to that point in time, at least not much earlier, because they weren't really motivated by constructed political identities. If by ideology you mean social values imparted upon the political sphere, eg. loyalty to king, the church, local authorities, or particular cultural institutions, these would be social or political values imparted by the system and not a political identity in and of themselves. Take a man from 1600 and teach him the various political ideologies that exist and he would call you odd for placing faith in abstract constructed identities instead of a leader, belief, or kin. We speak the language of the enlightenment without noticing it all the time.

"Partisan politics" are largely an obfuscation of the actual situation and naked power struggles would be less harmful to the population (barring the occasional violent struggle) both physically and mentally. The people of the West have been raped by the political system, being both replaced and mindwashed to think they are at fault when the elites are waging political conflict with the lives of the common man as the pawns, something to think about heavily when what replaces our current systems comes up.

Like with Machiavelli, he has a lot of practical wisdom, but absent an authentic belief in God, all moral order, hierarchy, and authority must ultimately crumble.
