I'm not sure if I am succeeding in this thread and what kind of position that guy has at the Vivaldi company. But if more and more people speak out and tell them the importance of software freedom, I'm sure that one day Vivaldi will finally publish the full source code of their browser. And that would be a big win, because we would have another decent browser that we can use in the free software world.

@wuemeli@mastodon.social Gecko ain't much better nowadays. I really don't care about technical differences. I just want the software to be free.

@Fireweed@famichiki.jp I miss the old Midori when it was still it's own thing instead of just another Firefox fork that doesn't add anything notable.

@RedTechEngineer@fedi.lowpassfilter.link I'm just hoping that they haven't realized what they are missing on yet.Being able to be packaged into mainstream distros is a big deal and will guarantee tens of thousands of new users trying out your software.

@RedTechEngineer@fedi.lowpassfilter.link I believe subscriptions on their email and vpn services?Honestly I don't know. Maybe just corporate sponsors that keep them afloat?

@RedTechEngineer@fedi.lowpassfilter.link Yes, but they have integrated it into their browser, those kinds of things usually don't happen without money changing hands.

@SuperDicq anyway, they clearly don't feel a moral, practical, or economic insensitive to free software. Only nominally 'good enough' to people that don't really care.

@RedTechEngineer @SuperDicq a lot of the people shitting up FOSS do it because it sounds "ethical" and "sustainable" to be into FOSS but they don't care about the "fighting against MS" goal. That was long since tossed out.

@Fireweed@famichiki.jp If you wanna be boring, just use a Firefox fork like Librewolf or GNU IceCat. And if you want something more lightweight try Palemoon.

@SuperDicq Vivaldi is just a proprietary GUI for chromium.

@SuperDicq Waste of time because they will never comply and even if they did they can't, because Chromium is absolutely proprietary, they'd have to replace the web browser with something else. Proprietary degenerates must be bullied out of business, not debated.

@sally@freesoftwareextremist.com There are free versions of Chromium, such as "Ungoogled-Chromium".
