Problem:Father’s car is in garage and won’t start. He wants to have it towed to a repair shop.Car won’t go into neutral. How do you tow a car out of a garage in that state??

@Truthy there is sometimes a hidden keyhole near the gear selector that allows you to move the gear selector when the car is off. Other than that there is sometimes another trick they tell you in the user manual.also, tow truck operators specialize in towing cars in park. lol

@Richard @Truthy Yes - I had the same issue with one of our cars. There was a little latch next to the gear shift that I pried open. I could then push the screw driver down into it and it allowed the gear shift to move into neutral.

@Truthy You should be able to put the key in the on position without starting it and shift it into neutral. Or you could pull up the boot or panel around the shifter and try to figure out how to manually disable the lockout function. Also if you let the tow company know that the car is stuck in park they can either get it out of park or put the wheels on dollies to move it.

@Truthy — I believe some tow trucks have a full-vehicle jack, kinda like what a mechanic lays on to roll under a car. The jack can be rolled under the car and lift the whole thing up.
